yeyejoijoi-deactivated20121231 asked: I'm working on an urban planning musical (very early stages of development). Since there are so many interesting characters in the history of planning, right now I'm trying to figure out my "must have" list. I'm interested in your thoughts. Who you would you want to see included?
That’s great that you’re working on an urban planning musical! I’d be interested in hearing more about that as you continue to develop it.
I can definitely think of a few characters. It’s problematic to restrict your selection to planners alone, since people from various fields have made contributions to historically significant planning decisions/ projects. Therefore, I’ll include people who were not necessarily planners by training, but who nonetheless historically have had a significant impact on urban and regional planning practice. My list:
- Frederick Law Olmsted
- Daniel Burnham
- Kevin Lynch
- Lewis Mumford
- Christopher Alexander
- William H. Whyte
- Enrique Penalosa
- Ian McHarg
- Ebenezer Howard
- Le Corbusier
- Pierre Charles- L’Enfant
- Baron Haussman
- Camillo Sitte
- Edmund Bacon
- Frank Lloyd Wright
- Donald Appleyard
- Robert Moses
- Jane Jacobs
